Course Creator Jenny Buchanan

Jenny has been working as an artist since 1996. In that time she has won awards, participated in gallery exhibitions and had artworks selected for public display. As an art teacher, Jenny has held in-person classes in acrylics, watercolour and pastels. In her words: “Since launching Blue Beach House Art School in March 2020, I have come to realise that my true gift, as an artist, is being able to communicate everything about painting in a clear and easy-to-understand way, through video lessons. Getting great results for students is about much more than just filming a painting. Demonstrating the process, without being there in person, requires excellent communication skills. That is why I explain both the how and the why of everything, in great detail, both on video and in writing. My teaching style is pretty much straight to the point, very rarely veering off the subject at hand. You won’t hear about what the dog is doing or how clever the grandchildren are (even though they are, of course). It is really all about the painting and about your success as an artist. Art is very personal and sharing your work can feel like you have stepped out onto a large stage. I always offer supportive and constructive (but honest) feedback on your work but only if and when you ask for it. The thing to remember, though, is that if you aren’t brave enough put yourself out there, you will never know how great you can be.”
