Who I am

What personal data I collect and why I collect it

If you create an account, I will store your name, address, email and phone number, which will be used to populate the checkout for future orders.

I generally store information about you for as long as we need the information for the purposes for which we collect and use it, and I am not legally required to continue to keep it. For example, I will store order information for 5 years for tax and accounting purposes. This includes your name, email address and billing and shipping addresses.

I will also store comments or reviews, if you choose to leave them.

Comments

When visitors leave comments on the site Thinkific collects the data shown in the comments form, and also the visitor’s IP address and browser user agent string to help spam detection.

Contact forms

The contact form submission data is stored in the database of the site on which it was submitted and is emailed directly to the owner of the form (i.e. Jennifer Buchanan). This email will include the submitter’s IP address, timestamp, name, email address, website, and message.  My contact form is provided by a third party, Thinkific.   Please refer to their privacy policy here: https://www.thinkific.com/privacy-policy/ for information on how they may collect and use your data.

The information you provide when submitting a contact form will be retained for an indefinite period and is used for solely for customer service purposes.  I do not use this information for marketing purposes.

Cookies

If you leave a comment on our site you may opt-in to saving your name, email address and website in cookies. These are for your convenience so that you do not have to fill in your details again when you leave another comment. These cookies will last for one year.

If you have an account and you log in to this site, I will set a temporary cookie to determine if your browser accepts cookies. This cookie contains no personal data and is discarded when you close your browser.

When you log in, I will also set up several cookies to save your login information and your screen display choices. Login cookies last for two days, and screen options cookies last for a year. I employ other companies and people to perform tasks on my behalf and need to share your information with them so I can provide products or services to you. For example, I use Thinkific to process orders, Stripe and PayPal Express Checkout to process payments. Unless I tell you differently and obtain your consent, my agents do not have any right to use the Personal Information we share with them beyond what is necessary to assist us.

Google Analytics

Please refer to the appropriate Google Analytics documentation for the specific type of data it collects. Purchase events will send Google Analytics the following information: order number, product id and name, product category, total cost, and quantity of items purchased. Google Analytics does offer IP anonymization, which can be enabled by the site owner.

Stripe

I accept payments through Stripe. When processing payments, some of your data will be passed to Stripe, including information required to process or support the payment, such as the purchase total and billing information.

I manage my emails through Convertkit.  When communicating with you via email some of your data will be passed to Convertkit including information required for the delivery of email.

How long I retain your data

If you leave a comment, the comment and its metadata are retained indefinitely. This is so I can recognize and approve any follow-up comments automatically instead of holding them in a moderation queue.

For users that register on my website (if any), I also store the personal information they provide in their user profile. All users can see, edit, or delete their personal information at any time (except they cannot change their username). Website administrators can also see and edit that information.

What rights you have over your data

If you have an account on this site, or have left comments, you can request to receive an exported file of the personal data I hold about you, including any data you have provided to me. You can also request that I erase any personal data I hold about you. This does not include any data I are obliged to keep for administrative, legal, or security purposes.

Your data is protected by an SSL certificate which has been purchased for this website.

SSL Certificates are small data files that digitally bind a cryptographic keyto an organization’s details. When installed on a web server, it activates the padlock and the https protocol (over port 443) and allows secure connections from a web server to a browser. Typically, SSLis used to secure credit card transactions, data transfer and logins, and more recently is becoming the norm when securing browsing of social media sites.

Spam protection and blocking of malicious login attempts is provided by Jetpack (see above).

I endeavor to protect the privacy of your account and other Personal Information I hold in my records, but I cannot guarantee complete security. Unauthorized entry or use, hardware or software failure, and other factors, may compromise the security of user information at any time. In the event that I believe that the security of your Personal Information in my possession or control may have been compromised, I will notify you of that development as soon as possible, and, I will do so by the email associated with your account.
